The irregular spires of White Pine trees inspired the double high diamond shaped window at the center of this Adirondack house. designed by Syracuse firm Robertson Strong Apgar Architects. The client, an empty-nester couple, wanted a special retreat that would defer to the surrounding forest and lakes. In response, the architects designed a strong rectangular volume with a large garage – loft structure set at an angle creating a forecourt. Externally the house has an appearance of a simple, green cedar sided, natural stone structure, enhanced by big window openings. This house has a solid, robust presence emphasizing ambition to create a lasting, durable piece of lodge architecture. This aspiration is also visible in the choice of the siting on top of the ridge offers long lake vistas, enables sun penetration while securing privacy.
